NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha has emphasised the administration’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience at the 125-foot tall Dr BR Ambedkar Social Justice Statue. A steering committee meeting, chaired by the Collector on Thursday, deliberated on various measures to transform the iconic statue into a major tourist attraction in Andhra Pradesh.
Recognising the statue as the tallest of its kind in the state, the Collector noted that a comprehensive plan is being prepared to ensure visitors have a memorable experience. Key discussions centred on improving facilities for visitors, such as expanding vehicle parking areas, installing fountains, setting up a reverse osmosis (RO) water plant, and creating children’s play zones.
Dr Lakshmisha stressed the importance of additional amenities, including drinking water, sanitation, and waste disposal, to enhance the experience for visitors exploring the Dr BR Ambedkar Social Justice Statue, the Musical Fountain, exhibits, and the Ambedkar Chaitya Experience Centre.
He directed officials to draft proposals for upgrading these facilities.
The meeting also highlighted the need to maintain green spaces, plan parking expansions for peak times, and introduce new attractions such as a Dolby Atmos Mini Theatre, exhibitions, food courts, and scientific entertainment programmes.
NTR District Joint Collector Dr Nidhi Meena, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner D Chandrashekhar, Vijayawada RDO K Chaitanya, District SC Welfare and Empowerment Officer Shiromani, APIIC Zonal Manager K Babji, KPC project representatives, and others attended the meeting.
