NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha has said that the development plans being implemented with special activities in Ibrahimpatnam and Penuganchiprolu mandals of the district, selected by the Central government under the Aakankshita Block Programme (ABP), are yielding good results. Also, efforts are being made to ensure that these two blocks lead the way.
On Friday, Collector Dr Lakshmisha visited Penuganchiprolu, one of the target blocks, to inspect the progress of various programmes and initiatives aimed at improving indicators related to education, health, and nutrition. The Collector visited Anganwadi centres to evaluate the nutritional food provided to children. He interacted with the children, assessing their early education skills. Additionally, the facilities available for the physical and mental development of children were reviewed to ensure adequate resources and identify any further needs.
Besides, the Collector participated in a comprehensive health survey (NCD 3.0) conducted by health workers. He highlighted the importance of early check-ups, explaining to the public how such proactive measures can greatly benefit their overall health and wellbeing. He said that people should not hesitate or delay in taking necessary health tests to maintain their well-being.
As part of the government’s commitment to providing better opportunities for children with special needs, special attention is being given to such children in the target blocks through the implementation of the Right to Education Act. The Collector observed a teacher training programme held on Thursdays and Fridays at the KVR ZP High School, which was attended by 79 teachers from various government and private schools. The training focused on identifying children with special needs, sign language, Braille script, and the various benefits provided under the Right to Education Act. Dr Lakshmisha distributed certificates to the teachers who completed the training, stressing that equal educational opportunities are essential for the overall development of children with special needs. He also stressed that removing barriers to education is a collective responsibility.
The Collector also addressed the rights of workers under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
