Minister for Excise Kollu Ravindra has directed officials to complete the Machilipatnam port works by June 2026.
Accompanied by APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana and Krishna District Collector DK Balaji, the Minister inspected the construction works of the port and the layout of the first phase of the project on Saturday.
He reviewed the progress of the construction through a PPT presentation at the port project office and sought details from Mega Engineering Limited General Manager Tulsidas. Speaking to the media, the Minister said the port, a long-cherished dream of the people of Bandar, is currently 37% complete. He instructed officials to expedite the work so that the people of Bandar can have a prosperous future.
During his visit to the district in October 2024, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inspected the port’s construction and noted that 27% of the work had been completed at the time. Officials had earlier set a target for December 2026, but he ordered that the works be completed by June next year.
Kollu Ravindra stated that the filling of four berths has been completed, and a platform needs to be built. He added that six dredging works, totalling 15 metres, are underway to accommodate ships. Once completed, administrative buildings will also be constructed. He recalled that the port’s construction is the result of prolonged struggles by the local people.
The Minister further highlighted that a 200-metre road and a railway line are being completed, and the government is taking steps to connect the Vijayawada-Pedana road to the national highway.
