The Congress has asked the Election Commission to disqualify the Nagarkurnool BRS MLA for threatening to kill Congress workers in the Boppali village of Telkapally Mandal in Nagarkurnool district on August 27 to prevent them from contesting in the Assembly elections.

TPCC Senior Vice-Presidents Mallu Ravi and G. Niranjan and TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee Convener P. Rajesh Kumar filed a complaint with Telangana State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikasraj regarding this.In their complaint, they said that Marri Janardhan Reddy, who is a sitting BRS MLA and the BRS candidate in the coming Assembly elections in the Nagarkurnool Assembly constituency fired at Congress workers and threatened to kill Congress workers if they spoke against him or the BRS.

They said that Marri Janardhan Reddy had threatened to cut the hands of Congress workers and directed his henchmen to ensure that no Congress worker moves around in the area.

The Congress leaders also mentioned in their complaint that Suryapet Councillor Renuka had filed a petition on Monday with the Human Rights Commission as her husband is being threatened by Minister G. Jagdish Reddy.

She said that her husband Vatte Janaiah, the Chairman of DCMS in the combined Nalgonda district, had applied for a BRS ticket to contest the Assembly elections. She said that the Minister developed a grudge against him due to this and in a single day 71 cases were registered against him under pressure from Minister G. Jagdish Reddy. She said that her husband’s whereabouts are not known now.

These are a few examples of how BRS candidates are misusing power and threatening others, the Congress said.

The Congress leaders appealed to the CEO to take strong action regarding this and end the misuse of power by the BRS. They also asked the CEO to disqualify Marri Janardhan Reddy from contesting the Assembly elections.
