Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar and Congress leader from Medak Neelam Madhu Mudiraj participated in celebrations held at Nandigam mandal Centre on Sunday, marking the approval of Scheduled Castes classification and Backward Classes caste enumeration in the Telangana Assembly. The event witnessed the presence of several local leaders and community representatives, highlighting the significance of the decision for marginalised communities.
Addressing the gathering, Shankar expressed his satisfaction over the Congress government’s move to introduce and pass the Scheduled Castes classification bill in the Assembly, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the BC communities after decades of struggle. He commended the Telangana government for honouring the promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding caste enumeration before the Assembly elections. Shankar emphasised that the Congress people’s government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, was taking a historic step by conducting a Backward Classes caste census.
Neelam Madhu Mudiraj criticised certain political figures, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his family, for not participating in the caste census survey.
Several prominent leaders participated in the event, including former ZPTC member Shyam Sundar Reddy, former MPP Shiva Shankar Goud, President Narasimhulu, former MPTCs Kommu Krishna, Kumaraswamy Goud, Chandrapal Reddy, Ram Reddy, Youth Congress State General Secretary Ande Mohan, Harinath Reddy, Krishna Reddy, Shekhar, Srikanth Goud, Yadaiah, Ramulu, Chennaiyya, and Jagan.
