The Congress, the CPI, the CPM and the AIMIM on Sunday criticised the Centre’s proposal to hold ‘Jamili Elections.’
They said that Modi floated the ‘Jamili Election’ idea with selfish political motives and that the BJP is aiming to conduct a Presidential-type election through Jamili elections. They said that if there is a Presidential kind of election the ‘existence’ of the South will be in ‘danger.’
They said that Modi started the ‘Jamili’ election mantra after the INDIA alliance launch and that the ‘one country – one election’ idea was ‘dangerous’ for democracy.
They said that Jamili elections are not possible in India and slammed the Modi government for suddenly appointing a committee under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind.
However, the BRS said that federal spirit is missing in the appointment of the committee under Ramnath Kovind as there is no representation from South India.
The TPCC President said that the BJP introduced the ‘One Nation–One Election’ idea as it knows that it is going to face defeat. He said that the BJP is trying to bring ‘one nation-one election’ to make Parliament polls a Presidential kind of election.
Revanth said that if there is a Presidential-type election the ‘existence’ of the South will be in danger. He made it clear that the Congress is against Jamili elections and said that the Centre is bringing Jamili elections to ‘take away’ the rights of states.
The CPI’s Narayana said that Modi started the ‘Jamili’ election mantra due to the INDIA effect. He said that the double-engine sarkar disappeared and so Modi is trying to bring the nation under one-party rule.
The BJP is trying to conduct elections on religion basis as its graph has fallen. It is not possible to bring in a Constitutional amendment without holding discussions with all parties.
Former CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said that the Jamili elections are not possible now.
CPM State Secretariat Member Julakanti Ranga Reddy said that the BJP and Prime Minister Modi floated the ‘Jamili Election’ idea with selfish political motives.
He said the BJP and PM Modi introduced the idea as they know that they are going to face defeat in the Assembly elections in five states.
“The BJP floated this idea to ensure that the results of the Assembly elections do not impact Lok Sabha elections. The CPM is opposing Jamili Elections as it is of no use to the people,” Julakanti Ranga Reddy said.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, “This is the notification appointing the committee that will look into #OneNationOneElection. It is clear that this is just a formality and the government has already decided to go ahead with it. One nation-one election will be a disaster for multiparty democracy and federalism. Modi had to reduce LPG prices due to upcoming state elections. He wants a scenario where if he wins elections he will spend the next five years carrying out anti-people policies without any accountability.”
“The proposal is against the very spirit of the Constitution and the basic nature of federalism,” he added.
TS Planning Board Vice-Chairman B. Vinod Kumar said that the BRS has already clarified its stand on Jamili elections to the Central Law Commission and the Central Election Commission.
