The Congress party has extended solidarity to the striking second Auxiliary Nurses Midwives (ANMs).

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leader Gandra Satyanarayana Rao expressed solidarity with the striking ANMs by taking part in the protest staged in front of the District Collector here.

Speaking on the occasion, Satyanaranayana Rao, who is the Congress party’s Bhupalapally constituency in-charge, demanded that the government resolve the just demands of the striking ANMs.

The second ANMs constitute a significant chunk of field-level functionaries of the Medical and Health Department. They launched a strike demanding the regularisation of their services. Their strike affected the health services in primary health centres (PHCs), he said.

The TPCC leaders recalled that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao promised to regularise the services of outsourcing and contract workers. He made a similar promise even during the movement for statehood to Telangana. KCR failed to fulfil the promises. The second ANMs have been discharging their responsibilities though the government failed to provide job security for the last 10 years, he remarked.

Satyanarayana Rao condemned the government for the arrest of 3,500-second ANMs when they were on their way to stage a protest in front of the Assembly peacefully.
