The Congress is once again trying to forge a ‘Mahakutami’ (grand alliance) in Telangana to defeat the ruling BRS in the Assembly elections.
In the 2018 Assembly elections also the Congress formed a Mahakutami but could not defeat the BRS. The main reason for that was including the TDP headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu in it which enabled the BRS to ignite the Telangana sentiment once again. This time the Congress is taking steps not to repeat that mistake.
The Congress is sending invitations to other opposition parties to fight the BRS jointly in the Assembly elections. The Left which is not happy with KCR may join hands with the Congress. At the national level the Left is fighting the BJP along with the Congress.
The Congress is in touch with TJS President Kodandaram, former Telangana AAP convenor Indira Shobhan, revolutionary balladeer Gaddar and those who participated actively in the Telangana movement.
TJS President Kodanda Ram is moving closely with the Congress. It may be recalled that Kodandaram recently said that they are thinking whether to merge their party with the Congress or support the Congress to defeat the BRS. This time the Congress may not include the TDP in the Mahakutami. TDP supremo Chandrababu is trying for an alliance with the BJP and is meeting the BJP brass including Prime Minister Modi. This has forced the Congress to keep the TDP away from the Mahakutami. If the TDP is included in the Mahakutami, the BRS will play the Telangana card once again.
Meanwhile, the Congress is trying to bring back its leaders those who left the party due to various reasons. Some leaders joined the BRS and some others joined the BJP. The Congress thinks that at any cost it must defeat the BRS this time and that the political atmosphere is in its favour.
