BRS Working President KT Rama Rao accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of deliberately ignoring the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar.
He said that the government’s refusal to honour Ambedkar’s 125-foot statue, installed to inspire Dalits and all marginalised communities, reflects its disrespect and its discriminatory attitude. BRS leaders who planned to meet at the statue were kept under house arrest.
KTR asked why the government did not even garland Ambedkar’s statue on his death anniversary.
“Is this due to the Congress High Command’s orders? What message is the government trying to send by locking up the statue, leaving it unattended and unclean?” he demanded. He emphasised that the statue was unveiled to honour Ambedkar’s legacy and it is now being treated with disdain.
Highlighting the Congress’s unfulfilled promises, KTR pointed out the cancellation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme and the stopping of overseas scholarships for Dalit students.
He accused the Congress government of failing to empower Dalits and blocking schemes like Gurukulam education launched by the BRS admin.
KTR did not spare Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused him of hypocrisy. “Rahul projects himself as a guardian of the Constitution while his party undermines Ambedkar’s ideals in Telangana,” he stated.
He also demanded that the Congress hold a month-long Assembly session to address issues like the failure to fulfil its electoral promises and the agrarian crisis.
KTR concluded by stating that the government’s attempts to erase Telangana’s history will be met with strong opposition. “We will fight to preserve Telangana’s identity and Ambedkar’s vision for an equitable society,” he declared.
