Cong sincere about caste census

Must read

The Congress is sincere about conducting a caste census, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said. The Congress will conduct a caste census even if the opposition creates ruckus about caste census, he added.
He said that in the coming days elections to local bodies will be conducted as per reservation norms so that BCs will get their due share. The Congress wants a large number of BCs to get elected in local body elections, he said.
Participating in a felicitation meeting for the new TPCC chief, B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, organised by BC organisations at the Ravindra Bharati on Thursday, Ponnam said that Mahesh Kumar Goud should do justice to the SCs, STs and BCs in the Congress.

“BCs should not think about who will give us opportunities. The BCs should fight and grab posts. Our leader Rahul Gandhi said ‘Jithna Hissedari…Utna Bhagidari’ and made it clear in Parliament that the Congress will certainly conduct a caste census if elected to power. The SCs, STs and BCs will get justice in the coming days. We have already introduced a Bill in the Assembly regarding a caste census and have allocated funds for that. The Congress government appointed a committee a week after the appointment of the BC Commission,” Ponnam said.
He said that the proposal for 27 per cent reservations has not been implemented in the last 10 years as the BJP is ‘against’ BCs.
