The Congress has started the selection of its candidates for Assembly elections. The party appointed a Sub-Committee to decide rules and regulations to receive applications from Congress ticket hopefuls for the coming Assembly elections.
Now, leaders from other parties have no option but to join the Congress before August 25 if they want a Congress ticket.
The Sub-Committee was constituted with Damodara Raja Narsimha as the Chairman and Rohit Choudhary (AICC Secretary) and Mahesh Kumar Goud (TPCC Working President) as members on Monday. The Committee will decide the rules and regulations and the fee for application by August 17.
The hopefuls have to submit their applications from August 18 to 25 by paying the fee prescribed by the Sub-Committee. The candidates have to submit their applications at the Gandhi Bhavan.
The TPCC Election Committee and the TPCC Election Screening Committees had a meeting on Monday at the Gandhi Bhavan under the leadership of TPCC President Revanth Reddy. Screening Committee chairman Muralidharan and members Baba Siddiqui and Jignesh Mevani attended the meeting. AICC in-charge General Secretary Manikrao Thakre, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others participated in the meeting.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, TPCC Working President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud revealed that discussions were held on election strategy. He said that the next meeting will be held in the first week of September. The meeting will be examined by the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) and will be sent to the Screening Committee.
He said that it is not possible to give tickets to all hopefuls. The party will not depend only on surveys but it will consider the surveys while giving tickets.
He said that the PEC will play a key role in the selection of candidates. He said that the PEC and the Screening Committee will select suitable candidates and later the Congress Election Committee will examine the list prepared by the PEC and the Screening Committee and later the Congress Working Committee will announce the party’s candidates in September.
