Senior TPCC Vice-President Mallu Ravi said the BRS government withdrew UAPA cases against Prof. Haragopal and some others as it was afraid of public reaction.He said the BRS government must take action against the police for filing treason cases against Prof. Haragopal if it had any regard for democracy and that the Congress would scrap UAPA after coming to power.
Addressing the media at the Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Mallu Ravi said that before coming to power KCR had said that his agenda is the Naxal agenda. Now KCR thinks there is no one to question the government on behalf of the people, he said.
When asked why the Congress government introduced the UAPA Act, Mallu Ravi said that bringing an Act is different from using it. He said that people staged dharnas against the UAPA Act even when the Congress was in power.
He said that the BRS has imposed a police raj on Telangana after it came to power and that the government has been making the police arrest opposition leaders when the Chief Minister and Ministers attend government functions across the state.
He said the state government filed treason cases against intellectuals, educationists and Telangana activists for questioning it.Mallu Ravi said that Prof. Haragopal had taken part in the peace talks held between the government and Naxalites and had also raised his voice against the corruption in executing irrigation projects.
