BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) has come down heavily on the Congress government for what he described a “blatant betrayal” of farmers.
Addressing the media at the Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, KTR accused the Congress of breaking its election promise to provide ?15,000 per acre under the Rythu Bharosa scheme and instead delivering only ?12,000 with restrictive conditions.
“This is nothing but daylight robbery. The Congress promised ?15,000 during the elections, but now farmers are being short changed. This is an unforgivable betrayal, and Telangana’s farmers will not tolerate it,” KTR said.
KTR announced that protests will be held across Telangana on Monday in district, mandal and constituency headquarters to demand justice for farmers. “We will continue to fight until the Congress delivers on its promise. Farmers must question Congress leaders wherever they go,” he said.
He criticized the Congress for its lack of clarity in assisting horticulturists and farmers who raise other crops under the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
KTR accused the Congress of having a history of betraying farmers. “This party has always been synonymous with deception. From Rahul Gandhi to Revanth Reddy, all they’ve done is make empty promises. Telangana’s farmers have learned their lesson and will not trust them again,” he added.
KTR did not mince words while criticizing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that he has reduced the promised amount for farmers to survive politically.
“Revanth Reddy’s so-called leadership has only resulted in farmers being cheated. He must answer why ?15,000 was reduced to ?12,000. Is this the Congress party’s idea of supporting farmers?” he said.
KTR questioned Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the issue. “Rahul once claimed that Congress would guarantee support to farmers. Where is he now? Why is he not visiting Telangana to explain this betrayal?”
Drawing attention to the BRS government’s track record, KTR said that under Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, over ?1 lakh crore was spent on schemes like Rythu Bandhu and farmer loan waivers. “While KCR is a true friend of farmers, Revanth has turned out to be their worst enemy,” he asserted.
KTR urged Telangana’s farming community to unite against Congress’ treachery and ensure that their voices are heard. He called on people to question Congress’ local leaders and prevent them from misleading the public again.
