The Minister reviews situation with heads of 17 Municipal Corporation
Municipal Minister P. Narayana held a review meeting with the Commissioners and Engineering Officers of all 17 Municipal Corporations at the Amaravati Secretariat. The meeting focused on controlling seasonal diseases such as diarrhoea, dengue, and malaria, improving the drinking water supply, and financially strengthening municipal corporations.
State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana directed officials to immediately launch a special drive to prevent seasonal diseases prevalent during the monsoon.
He instructed the concerned departments to fix any freshwater pipe leakages within 24 hours and ensure that garbage inside drains is cleaned promptly.
He emphasised that seasonal diseases are likely to increase during the rainy season and advised the commissioners to prepare comprehensive preventive measures. He noted that while no cases of dengue have been reported in the municipalities so far, cases of diarrhoea have been reported in a few areas. The minister also mentioned that he discussed the issue with health department officials. A special drive should be initiated to prevent diarrhoea, remove silt from the drains, and ensure the smooth flow of drainage water. He announced that around Rs 50 crore would be released soon to address drinking water pipe leakages, remove garbage from canals, and improve sanitation conditions.

During the meeting, the commissioners presented various programs being undertaken in their corporations through a PowerPoint presentation. They also explained the financial conditions of the municipal corporations, the measures taken to improve the supply of drinking water, the development of the sewage system, and the removal of garbage from drains.
