Veteran journalist V.V.R. Krishnam Raju was arrested by the police at Bhimili near Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Krishnam Raju, who is the Editor of Journalist magazine, has been named as Accused No. 1 in a case involving alleged derogatory remarks made during a televised debate on the Sakshi news channel. He reportedly referred to Amaravati as “a capital of prostitutes”, sparking outrage.
Krishnam Raju had been absconding for the past few days. Police traced his movements using mobile phone tower data and apprehended him along with two others who were with him at the time of arrest. All three were being taken to Vijayawada, sources said. It may be recalled that the debate anchor, Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, was earlier arrested in connection with the same case and has been remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody.
