A couple sustained minor injuries in a country-made bomb explosion in Kuppam of Chittoor district on the intervening night of Monday. The injured were identified as S Murugesh (45) and Dhanalakshmi (40). It is reported that an unidentified man threw a bomb at the entrance door of the couple’s house. However, police said that they are yet to ascertain if it was a bomb and suspect it to be a firecracker.
The injured were rushed to the government hospital by the locals and their condition is said to be stable. The couple earns their living by selling steel utensils in the town.
According to the police, the couple heard some commotion outside their house in the early hours and opened the door when an explosion occurred. The victims sustained minor injuries. The neighborhood who heard the huge explosive sound rushed towards the victim’s house and got them admitted to the Government area hospital at Kuppam.
However, their daughter (20) who was sleeping in the other room escaped. The police who reached the spot thoroughly inspected the surroundings and found some materials that were used for making the firecrackers.
Police who registered a case took up an investigation and collected clues from the crime spot.
