Crackdown on drug abuse’DC stresses importance of awareness campaigns at the grassroots-level

Parvatipuram District Collector A Shyam Prasad has issued a strong warning against the growing drug menace in the region, calling for immediate and coordinated action to curb the spread of narcotics and intoxicants. Addressing the District Level Narcotics Control Committee meeting on Thursday, the Collector emphasised the urgent need to apprehend those involved in the drug trade and take stringent measures to prevent the further influence of drugs in the community.
“We must educate people about the devastating consequences of ganja and other intoxicants,” the Collector said, stressing the importance of awareness campaigns at the grassroots-level. “Strict measures will be implemented to prevent the infiltration of drugs into educational institutions,” he added, vowing to hold individuals neglecting their duties accountable. The Collector also announced plans to withdraw government schemes from individuals found cultivating cannabis or other narcotic crops. He highlighted the need to tackle illegal sand mining and transportation, calling for a coordinated approach by all departments.
Superintendent of Police (SP) SV Madhava Reddy echoed the Collector’s sentiments, emphasising the government’s commitment to eradicating drugs and intoxicants. He announced the establishment of a special phone line for the public to report information about drug activities.
