State DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated the Police Convention Centre at Jampet in East Godavari district that was constructed spending Rs 45 lakh.
On the occasion, DGP Rajendranath Reddy reviewed the cases registered during the past three years in January and February regarding property crimes, bodily offences, white-collar crimes and road accidents, and said that the crime rate in East Godavari district decreased significantly.
He said that in 2021, as many as 497 cases were registered during the two months against 574 cases in 2022 and 431 cases in 2023.
He said that a special action plan was prepared to stop smuggling and supply of ganja from Orissa. As many as 53 people involved in smuggling ganja to East Godavari district and supplying ganja locally were arrested and sent to jail. As part of the crime prevention measures, special teams were formed to identify problematic places and conduct patrolling, which resulted in a significant reduction in thefts in East Godavari district.
A special vigilance team was formed to crackdown on rowdy sheeters disturbing the peace and harmony and 61 rowdy sheeters were sent to jail in various cases. To prevent road accidents, the bike riders should wear helmets and follow traffic rules. Around 80 per cent of accident deaths happen because of people not wearing helmets. The village/ward women police should handle sensitive cases besides wife-husband disputes, women security, anti-social activities, illicit liquor manufacturing and others.
The DGP said that in 2023, as many as 7,183 pending cases were resolved through a mega lok adalat.
