The Government of Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step towards addressing the State’s skill gap with the launch of the Skills Census initiative. A crucial meeting was held on Tuesday under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) to discuss the implementation of this ambitious programme.
Gummala Ganesh Kumar, MD & CEO of APSSDC, emphasised the importance of the Skills Census in aligning the State’s workforce with industry demands. “This initiative is being carried out under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Our goal is to identify the skill gaps both at the individual and industry levels and gather data that will enable a comprehensive assessment of our current workforce,” he stated.
The “Skills Census” aims to map the existing skills within the State and understand the demographic distribution of these skills. The government plans to conduct extensive surveys to achieve this objective, ultimately ensuring that the supply of skills meets the demands of various industries. “We are committed to understanding the current workforce dynamics and addressing any gaps that may exist. This census will be a pivotal tool in shaping our future workforce strategies,” added Ganesh Kumar.
The meeting also served as a platform for interaction between the government and IT industry representatives. The attendees were urged to actively participate in the Skills Census process to ensure its success. Representatives from various IT giants, including Tech Mahindra, Patra, and WNS, shared their insights and suggestions during the event. Dinesh Kumar, Executive Director of APSSDC, reiterated the importance of industry collaboration. “The success of the Skills Census depends on the active involvement of our industry partners. Their feedback and cooperation are crucial in making this initiative a success,” he noted.
Sai Krishna Chaitanya, District Skill Development Officer for Visakhapatnam, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the district’s unique skill needs and how the census will help tailor development programmes to meet those needs. “Visakhapatnam has a diverse workforce, and this census will provide us with the data needed to design targeted skill development programs,” he explained.
The event concluded with a positive response from the industry representatives, who expressed their commitment to the initiative. “The Skills Census is a much-needed step in aligning our workforce with industry requirements. We look forward to working closely with the government to make this initiative a success,” said a representative from Tech Mahindra._________________
