Chief Secretary K Vijayanand stated that the ongoing Yoga Andhra initiative, launched on 21st May, is advancing with great momentum in alignment with the Chief Minister’s vision of a healthy, happy, and prosperous Swarnandhra.

He urged collective efforts to ensure the success of the state-wide campaign.

A special Police Theme Yoga programme was conducted at the BRTS Yoga Street near Sarada College in Vijayawada.

The Ayush Department, NTR District Administration, District Police Commissionerate, and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation jointly organised the event. Over 6,000 participants, including senior IAS and IPS officers, took part in various ‘asanas’.

Children’s artistic yoga performances drew applause from the audience, while volunteers from Om Shanti Brahmakumaris demonstrated breathing meditation techniques, highlighting their health benefits.

Addressing the gathering, CS Vijayanand said daily themed yoga sessions are being held across the state to make yoga a regular part of life.

“Our goal is to reach two crore people by June 21, International Yoga Day. With 1.25 lakh trained instructors, we are taking yoga to every village and town,” he said. He added that 26 thematic yoga events are being conducted across all 26 districts.

These themes are designed for specific groups, including farmers, daily wage workers, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and MGNREGA workers, promoting inclusivity. Yoga awareness sessions are also planned at nearly 100 tourist spots, with four to five locations identified in each district.

Special Chief Secretary for Medical, Health and Family Welfare, M.T. Krishna Babu, noted the overwhelming response, stating, “People from all walks of life are actively registering. In some districts, we’ve even exceeded targets.”

CCLA and NTR District Special Officer G. Jayalakshmi stressed that yoga is India’s cultural treasure and should be embraced as a daily routine, not a one-day event. NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha added that yoga sessions are being conducted daily across the district, targeting 15 lakh participants by the end of the campaign.

Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu lauded the department’s active involvement and the initiative’s role in enhancing physical and mental well-being.

Dignitaries present included Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian, AYUSH Director K. Dinesh Kumar, VMC Commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra, IGs B. Rajakumari, A.K. Ravikrishna, and Ratnakumari, DCP K.G.V. Saritha, and Vijayawada RDO Kavuri Chaitanya.
