Minister for Mines and Excise, Kollu Ravindra, has instructed the District Collector and Joint Collector to expedite the Bandar Sea Port and Fishing Harbour construction works.
The Minister convened a meeting on Thursday with District Collector DK Balaji, Joint Collector Gitanjali Sharma, and other officials to review the progress of the projects.
He suggested developing an MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) Park in the Gilakaladindi area and directed officials to assess the park’s feasibility. Additionally, he called for preparing a master plan for the park’s development. “Proactive steps must be taken to safeguard the livelihoods of fishermen during the Port’s construction. A dedicated cluster for fishermen should be developed, including a boat-making unit. Adequate training must be provided to ensure their livelihoods are not adversely affected,” the Minister instructed.
Highlighting the potential industrial growth due to the Port’s establishment, the Minister urged officials to focus on generating employment and improving basic infrastructure in the region.
Discussions also covered the development of Manginapudi Beach. The Minister proposed setting up a desalination plant to address drinking water needs and directed the construction of washrooms for visitors to the beach.
He stressed the importance of developing the Bandar Port as a Heritage Park and taking steps to preserve the historic Bandar Fort. Plans for beautifying parks and widening roads in Machilipatnam town were also reviewed.
Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) K Swathi and other revenue officials attended the meeting.
