DCA seizes medicine over misleading advertisement

The Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA)  conducted raids at multiple locations in the State and sealed a clinic operated by a quack along with a few medicines over misleading claims of curing fever.
In the first case, the DCA seized ‘Calgrip tablets’ which were falsely manufactured and sold as a food product. It claimed to contain Calcium Citrate 1000mg, Magnesium 100 mg, Zinc mono 4 mg, Vitamin D3 2000IU. These tablets were falsely manufactured under a ‘food licence (FSSAI licence)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical.
The DCA said, ” ‘Calgrip tablet’ must be manufactured only under a ‘drug licence’ issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the ‘Indian Pharmacopoeia’ (IP) as mandated.”
In a raid conducted in Malkajgiri, the adminbistration seized an overpriced medicines identified as   Mupipan 5gm ointment and Zandi-200 capsules (Itraconazole capsules 200 mg) at Kamareddy.
The maximum retail price of the ointment set by the government is Rs 113.62 and it was being sold at Rs 115. Stock worth Rs 64,000 was seized by the administration; For Zandi -200 capsules, the ceiling price set by the government is Rs 22.12 while as the capsules were being sold at Rs 285 per 10 capsules. The capsule was being sold at an excess price of Rs 37.3.
The DCA seized stocks worth Rs 22,230.  In another case, the administration seized Ayurvedic medicines ‘Shri Tulsi drops’ and ‘Tulsi ginger drops’ which falsely claimed to cure ‘fever’, and ‘pneumonia’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The DCA conducted a raid in Wanaparthy district and sealed the premises of a quack identified as Bodhani Naveen Kumar. He claimed to be a rural medical practitioner.
Officials detected stocks of medicines on the premises without any drug licence. 52 varieties of medicines, including Antibiotics, Steroids, Analgesics, Anti-ulcer drugs, etc., were found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 60,000 during the raid.
The administration also detected several higher generation ‘antibiotics’ at the clinic during the raid.
