DCA seizes overpriced medicine in raids

Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) on June 26 seized overpriced medicine and drugs with misleading advertisements claiming to cure kidney stones and diabetes.
During a raid in Khammam district, the DCA seized Itralent-200 capsules (Itraconazole Capsules 200 mg) and ITROCIDE-200 Capsules (Itraconazole capsules 200 mg) at Jagtial and Evalet-2.5 tablets (Letrozole tablets IP 2.5 mg) at Sangareddy.
Itraconazole capsules 200 mg sold under the brand names ‘Itralent-200 capsules’ and ‘ITROCIDE-200 capsules’ and Letrozole tablets 2.5 mg sold under brand name ‘Evalet-2.5 tablets’ were under price control as per the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of the products should be in accordance with the ‘ceiling price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.
The maximum retail price of Intralent capsules was set at Rs 400 per 10 capsules, while the ceiling price set by the government is Rs 22.12. The pharmacy charged an excess amount of Rs 152.26.
Similarly, the Itrocide -200 was being sold at Rs 330 per 10 capsules while the ceiling price set by the government is Rs 22.12; The pharmacy charged an excess amount of Rs 83. The Evalet – 2.5 tablets were being sold at an MRP of Rs 190; while the ceiling price set by the government is Rs 29.32; The pharmacy charged an excess amount of Rs 25.80.
