DCA seizes overpriced syrup, Ayurvedic drug

Telangana Drug Control Administration on Saturday raided a pharmacy in Karimnagar and seized overpriced Supralax syrup. DCA Assistant Director M Srinvasulu said, “The firm increased the maximum retail price of the drug by more than 10 per cent in the last 2 months, violating the Drug Prices Control Order,2013. P Kartik Bharadwaj, Drug Inspector Karimnagar, stressed the need for further investigation.
 In a separate incident, the DCA officials seized stock of Bact-Q  ointment 5 mg and Mupiheal ointment 5 mg  for being overpriced during a raid conducted on April 26. J Ashvin Kumar, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri said ,” The prices of the drug should be in accordance with the ceiling price decided by the central government.”
The manufacture Digital Vision from Himachal Pradesh of Bact-Q Ointment 5gm was charging Rs 16.38 more than the MRP while Mupiheal Ointment, manufactured by Healing Pharma, Vadodar, Gujarat, was charging Rs 29.40 more than the MRP.
According to the order, no manufacturer should increase the maximum retail price of the drug more than ten percent of maximum retail price during the preceding twelve months, DCA said.
The DCA also seized Ayurvedic medicines Rumalaya Liniment that claimed to treat rheumatism’ (inflammation, stiffness, and pain in the joints or muscles) and Bhringraj Choornam for claiming to treat fever, PileBan Cream, (Beclomethasone Dipropionate, Phenylephrine HCl and Lignocaine HCl Cream), an allopathic formulation, for claiming to treat piles.
