DCA seizes shilajit tablets over misleading advertisements

The Drug Control Administration (DCA) on Thursday seized shilajit tablets from a medical store in Sirsilla over misleading advertisements.
The label of the product bears a misleading claim stating that it is indicated for the treatment of ‘kidney stones’ and that it ‘reduces body weight’.
The said medicine was detected by DCA officials at a medical shop in Siricilla. Stocks were seized during the raid.
The advertisement of a medicine for the treatment of kidney stones and obesity is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertise ments) Act, 1954.
LRD Bhavani, Drugs Inspector, Siricilla, carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr J Raju, Assistant Director, Siddipet.
Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
In Jangaon, the DCA detected a medical shop being operated without a licence and seized a stock of medicines worth Rs 36,000.
The accused was identified K Rajesh Kumar. Forty-nine varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, anti-hypertensives and others were found stocked for sale at the premises.
Dr G Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal, A Balakrishna, Drugs Inspector, Jangaon and M Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal, are among the officers who carried out the raid.
DCA officers collected samples for analysis. Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law against all offenders involved.
