Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested the Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to declare the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) as a National Highway and widen the Hyderabad–Vijayawada NH to six lanes. The CM called on Nitin Gadkari at New Delhi on Wednesday. The Chief Minister apprised the Union Minister about the widening of NHs, the announcement of new NHs and the commencement of work on roads which have already been declared as NHs. The CM informed Gadkari that the Sangareddy to NarsapurToopran-Gajwel-JagdevpurBhongir-Choutuppal Road’s 158.645 km stretch has already been declared a NH and half of its land acquisition cost will be borne by the state government. The state government has already speeded up work in this direction. The CM asked Nitin Gadkari to declare the road from Choutuppal to Amangal-Shadnagar-Sangareddy (181.87 km) as a National Highway. The CM requested Gadkari to declare the southern part of the RRR as a National Highway and grant funds for it the NHAI annual plan this year. The CM told Gadkari that tenders for the sanctioned National Highway from Hyderabad (ORR Gourelli Junction) to Valigonda-ThorrurNellikuduru-Mahabubabad Kothagudem have been called for only a 69 km stretch and work has started. The Chief Minister recalled Gadkari’s statement at the Warangal public meeting that this road will be called Jai Sriram Road and that it will reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Bhadrachalam by 40 km. The CM requested Gadkari to start work immediately as tenders have been invited for the remaining three packages (165 km) of this National Highway.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Peddapally MP Vamsi and Chennur MLA G. Vivek were also present. The CM explained to Nitin Gadkari that the widening of the HyderabadVijayawada (NH 65) National Highway to six lanes was supposed to be completed by April 2024. The CM expressed serious concern over the increasing road accidents and loss of lives due to the fast-growing traffic on this busy National Highway. Around 60,000 vehicles are plying on this particular NH between the capitals of the two states every day. The CM told the Union Minister that despite the heavy traffic on the NH, the contract agency has not taken up the six lane project saying that traffic has declined after bifurcation and the agency was not getting adequate income. The Chief Minister asked Gadkari to resolve the dispute between NHAI and the contract company and take up the six lane road development project on the National Highway immediately. The CM asked the Union Minister for National Highways to declare the Kalwakurthi to KolhapurSomasila-Karivena-Nandyal (NH-167K) Road as a National Highway and invite tenders to take up work on the 142-km road. The CM said that tenders were invited for work on the remaining 32 km and the construction of the iconic bridge and requested him to start work immediately. The distance between Hyderabad and Tirupati will be reduced by 70 km once the proposed National Highway is completed, he said. The VM requested the Union Minister to upgrade the two-lane road between Hyderabad and Kalwakurthy (NH-765k) to four lanes. The CM said that the Kalwakurthy-Nandyal highway (NH-167K) will start at 67 km (Kalwakurthy) on the Hyderabad-Srisailam route (NH167K) as the National Highway and work for NH 167k highway has started.
