Despite the southwest monsoon arriving in the State a month ago, the region has yet to experience substantial rainfall. Many districts have been affected by dry spells, while some have witnessed deficient rainfall. Fourteen districts have experienced dry spells, while ten districts have received normal rainfall within the range of -19% to +19%. However, two districts have recorded excess rainfall.
The majority of districts in the state are grappling with deficit rainfall, which has prevented farmers from commencing agricultural activities. Many farmers have ploughed their fields and are eagerly awaiting rainfall to accelerate their farming endeavours. As of July 8, the State has encountered a rainfall deficit of 22.80%. The expected normal rainfall for the season was 574.70 mm, with the usual rainfall for this time of year reaching 129.60 mm. However, the actual recorded rainfall stands at 100 mm.
According to officials’ reports, the districts of Alluri Sitaramaraju, Parvathipuram Manyam, East Godavari, Krishna, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Satya Sai, Chittoor have received normal rainfall. Conversely, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Konaseema, West Godavari, NTR, Eluru, SPSR Nellore, Kurnool, YSR, Annamayya, and Tirupati districts are facing a deficit in rainfall. On the other hand, Guntur and Bapatla districts have recorded excess rainfall.
