Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao inaugurated the Advanced Integrated Command System at Chirala One Town Police Station on Friday. He also inaugurated a waiting hall at the Karamchedu Police Station during his visit to Bapatla district.
The DGP was welcomed by Guntur Range IGP Sarvashresta Tripati and SP Tushar Dudy. Speaking on the occasion, he urged police officials to leverage advanced technology for crime investigation and prevention. He emphasised the importance of installing CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations to maintain law and order effectively.
Highlighting recent developments, the DGP stated that 150 CCTV cameras have been installed in Chirala town, including 30 cameras along the coastal route from the port to Potti Subbayya Palem and 30 cameras on key access roads to the sea. These cameras, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, two-way communication, and a public addressing system, are integrated into a command and control centre at Chirala One Town Police Station. Additionally, drones, LED monitors, and a repeater system have been installed to enhance surveillance capabilities.
The DGP noted that the system enables direct orders to be issued from the command centre, with the PA system ensuring immediate communication with nearby individuals. He remarked that the integrated system would aid in crime control, criminal investigations, and safeguarding tourists, particularly in coastal areas.
Dwaraka Tirumala Rao announced plans to install over one lakh CCTV cameras across Andhra Pradesh to enhance surveillance. โ€œIn Vijayawada city alone, over 1,150 CCTV cameras have been installed,โ€ he said.
He highlighted instances where CCTV monitoring proved instrumental in crime prevention and resolution, including rescuing three pilgrims from a sinking boat and apprehending a miscreant who had abducted a newborn baby from a hospital.
The DGP appealed to apartment residents, shop owners, and restaurant operators to install CCTVs on their premises, assuring them of the police departmentโ€™s support. Chirala MLA M. Malakondaiah, Parchur MLA Yeluru Sambasiva Rao, and senior police officials were present on the occasion.
