C20 Samajshala held by civil society bodies
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that despite India’s G20 presidency that calls for development as a family, the distance between Pragathi Bhavan and Raj Bhavan cannot be filled. She spoke at the Civil20 (C20) Samajshala, which is the official engagement group of G20. The event was organised by city-based Civil Society Organisations (CSO).
During the inaugural of the Samajshala, Governor Tamilisai said that G20 calls for leaders to come together and work towards development while it is hard to reach Telangana state leaders. “In the spirit of G20 presidency, the Prime Minister has called for meetings from all the leaders across the country. “However, we can go and meet country leaders and discuss development opportunities, but it is unfortunate how we cannot even meet the state leaders. The Raj Bhavan and Pragathi Bhavan cannot be filled. A very big building of a Secretariat has been opened but the first citizen does not get an invitation,” she said.
“Any new office that is built is only for the sake of people, a position of a minister or leader is for the development of people and not oneself. The Central government is mindful of that and all their work is of selfless motto. The theme Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is not the development of one family. It is the development of all families together as one,” she added.
The Governor further said that India has proved its capability of being a world leader through its performance during the pandemic. She said that despite WHO’s predictions that India is going to experience the most deaths by Covid, the government managed to curb the pandemic and save 40 million people from death. She also said that India led the way for vaccines and made major progress to make a place on the world map.
Sewa International, the international coordinator for C20 Working Group, along with their partner organisation Seva Bharathi Telangana, with delegates including CSO and CSR leaders organised the C20 Samajshala.
Kiran DM, Sous-Sherpa of Civil20 India- 2023, said that G20 is more powerful than G7 with larger prospects and a composition of 2/3rd of the world’s population. He said that the C20 movement allows the G20 presidency to become a people’s movement in its true sense.
