The TS Minister for IT, Industries and MA&UD, KT Rama Rao, expressed deep concern over the incident in Manipur in which Kuki women were subjected to heinous acts of violence by a mob. In a tweet, KTR drew attention to the alarming situation and the need for immediate action to address the issue.
The tweet said, “We Indians are raging against the Taliban when they were disrespecting children and women. Now in our own country, Kuki women are being paraded naked and sexually assaulted by a Meitei mob in Manipur. It is a distressing and nauseous reminder of how barbarism has been normalized in the new India!! All this horrifying violence and the complete breakdown of law and order while the Centre watches in absolute silence. Where are you PM @narendramodi Ji and HM @AmitShah Ji while Manipur is burning? Please set aside everything and use your time to #SaveManipur.”
KTR’s heartfelt appeal highlights the seriousness of the situation in Manipur. The incident involving the assault and humiliation of Kuki women is an alarming reminder that such acts of violence should not be tolerated in any civilized society. He called upon the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and the Home Minister, Amit Shah, to prioritize the grave matter and take immediate action to restore peace in Manipur.
The silence of the Centre on the issue has intensified the distress of those affected and people at large, he said.
As responsible citizens of India, it is our collective responsibility to oppose any form of violence and safeguard the dignity and safety of all individuals, regardless of region or community, KTR said.
Floor leaders and MPs of the BRS in both Houses of Parliament will raise the Manipur violence and ensure that the Union Government acts decisively, he said.
The perpetrators of the molestation should be punished swiftly as per law, KTR said.
“We appeal to all parties cutting across the political spectrum to stand with the peace-loving people of Manipur who deserve better from their governments,” he said.
