Distribute books and uniforms by school reopening: CS

Chief Secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy has directed the Education Department officials to take necessary steps to ensure that textbooks, note books, uniforms and bags are provided to the students by the time schools reopen on June 12. The CS reviewed the preparations for the academic year 2024-25 with the officials of the Education Department at the State secretariat on Wednesday.
On the occasion, he clarified that the necessary textbooks, note books, uniforms, bags, shoes etc. should be provided to the students in a timely manner. The CS ordered the officials to check the number of books, uniforms and bags that have been provided so far and what needs to be provided. The measures taken to implement the midday meal scheme were also reviewed. Besides, CS Jawahar Reddy reviewed the progress of the works undertaken in the schools, mid-day meal accommodation and other issues.
At the meeting, Praveen Prakash, Principal Secretary, Education Department, explained the arrangements for the upcoming academic year through a PowerPoint presentation. He said that adequate measures are being taken to distribute textbooks, note books and uniforms to the students by June 10. He said 82 per cent of the books have already been published and sent to the mandal stock points. In the coming academic year, bilingual textbooks from 1 to 10 will be provided to the students. As many as 70,42,012 students have been enrolled from classes 1 to 10, and among them, 36,54,539 students have been enrolled in government schools.
Commissioner K Bhaskar explained the infrastructure developments being undertaken under Nadu-Nedu phase-2, spending Rs 7,029 crore. Construction of toilets with running water in various schools, drinking water, electricity, furniture, paintings, repairs to schools, green chalk boards, construction of additional classes, and construction of compound walls, kitchen sheds, and Aanganwadi centres are being done, he said.
Dr BR Ambedkar, Director of Apadhakam, explained the preparatory arrangements for the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme. APSD Srinivasa Rao, several directors of the Education Department, additional directors and other officials were present.
