The Shadnagar Government Hospital is facing a critical shortage of medical staff, leaving hundreds of patients, including pregnant women, without timely treatment. The hospital, which sees an influx of hundreds of patients daily, is struggling with only 42 medical personnel out of an essential 86.
The hospital’s gynecology department is particularly affected, with only one gynecologist managing the duties meant for six. This has resulted in significant delays and inadequate care for pregnant women, who now number over 120 deliveries per month—double the previous average of 60.
The dire situation extends beyond gynecology. There are only five civil assistant surgeons out of a required 22, and the CSS civil surgeon specialist team is short-staffed, with just nine of the necessary 22 personnel. Additionally, the hospital lacks sufficient lab technicians, pharmacists, nursing staff, and junior analysts.
Medical staff are stretched thin, and patients are often referred to Hyderabad Osmania Hospital due to the lack of facilities at Shad Nagar during emergencies. This has caused significant distress among the local population, many of whom are afraid to seek treatment at the government hospital.
The government has acknowledged the crisis but has yet to appoint the full complement of medical staff needed to alleviate the burden. The ongoing shortage continues to jeopardize the health and safety of patients, highlighting an urgent need for intervention and resource allocation to improve the hospital’s capacity and services.
