Telangana doctors staged protest over not getting promotions at the DME office and the counselling scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled.

About 200 doctors working as assistant to Associate Professors awaiting promotions were at the counselling centre from 10 am. They wanted all vacancies, along with vacancies in new peripheral colleges, be shown in at least 1:3 ratio. They demanded that that at least 600 of the 900 vacancies for 200 people should be shown and counselling should be done.

While there are 900 vacancies at the state-level, only 183 vacancies were shown on counselling scheduled for Tuesday.

As per the protesting doctors’ association TTGDA, “More than 90% candidates requested to show vacancies of all peripheral colleges. Not everyone wants Osmania or Gandhi. There is no loss in displaying all the Associate Professor vacancies. We will all support the new colleges. They can fill in contract for NMC-approved colleges. Many people are willing to go to peripheral colleges”.

As per TTGDA, the DME promised to discuss the issue with the government and show all the associate professor vacancies and conduct counselling. DME Ramesh Reddy released a statement, “Since the last five years counselling process was implemented in a transparent manner for Assistant Professor postings and Associate Professor posting during promotions.

Hundreds of postings are given and all those doctors are testimony to the transparent manner followed. Govt has started new medical colleges. It issued orders to give first priority to fill the posts in new medical colleges as per NMC norms, Faculty of these colleges are sanctioned keeping the 5 years’ requirements. All those posts need not be filled up in one year or second year. The vacancy matrix is prepared based on the availability of election gale candidates and requirements in various colleges. Some are unnecessarily creating confusion and stalling the councelling process.”

“The requirement of the various medical college is a priority but some doctors are not willing to join the new peripheral hospitals. Govt wants services in different districts. In Osmania there are 31 faculty in General Surgery, 55 in Pediatrics, 57 OBG, 19 Ortho, Anaesthesia 25 , 27 General Medicine ; in Gandhi College there are 23 in Gen Medicine, 26 Gen Surgery and 31 Anaesthesia. The newly promoted Associate Professors posted were hardly one or two doctors,” he added.
