As Hyderabad continues to grapple with the dog menace, a 55-year-old man was on Monday attacked by a pack of stray dogs on the Quazipura road in Old City.
Raising concern over the issue, Mohammed Ahmed, the Vice-President of Telugu Desam Party’s minority wing in Greater Hyderabad area said, “A 55-year-old man was attacked by stray dogs at Qazipura road #Oldcity. We have alerted and prevented the attack. This is a grave concern for the safety of children & citizens #saveLife.”
Responding to the tweet, a GHMC veterinary officer said, “Dear citizen, as per your complaint our dog catching team has caught one unsterilised dog and shifted it to Animal Care Centre in Chudi Bazar for sterilisation.”
It is to be noted that Old City or the Charminar Zone hosts 1.16 lakh canines out of which only 57 per cent have been sterilised. In recent times, there has been a rise in dog bite cases. On May 19, a 7-year-old was mauled to death by dogs in Kazipet. On February 4, a 4-year-old met the same fate.
Two delivery executives were also chased by dogs while making deliveries. One of the incidents occurred in Manikonda, where an Amazon delivery executive, Mohammed Ilyas, jumped off the Third floor of a building as a Doberman attacked him. Afraid of being attacked, the man slipped and fell on the ground from there, police said, adding that the customer and some others got him admitted to a hospital and his condition is said to be out of danger.
The delivery person suffered multiple injuries in the incident, a police official at the Raidurgam police station said.
