Drive to check seasonal diseases

Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durrishetty called for a drive against elephantiasis and other seasonal diseases. The drive will be conducted at government schools and Madrasas from July 15 to August 15.
Durrishetty urged authorities to take measures for prevention of seasonal diseases including dengue, chikungunya, diarrhoea and toxic fever during the rainy season.
He further stressed that dry days must be observed on Fridays across houses to ensure water is not accumulated  in the flower pots, fridges, tires, coconut shells etc.
“Students in the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes  and minority hostels should be sensitised regarding the environment in the hostels, washing hands while eating food, etc. through demonstration,” the Collector said.
Dr Venkat, an officer of the Medical and Health Department said, “Awareness programmes have been undertaken to prevent people from being affected by diarrhoea. ORS and zinc packets are being distributed door to door by Asha workers. Special teams are being sent to provide treatment and prevention of diarrhea only.”
Venkat further said, “Door-to-door fever survey is being conducted and a vaccine against elephantiasis is being distributed at anganwadi centers, UPHC, Basti Davakhanas and Comm unity Halls. Children aged 9 months to 15 years will be administered.
