On the occasion of Dulquer Salmaan’s birthday on Monday, the teaser of his upcoming film Kantha was unveiled. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the bilingual film is being made in Telugu and Tamil. Bhagyashri Borse plays the female lead, while Samuthirakani plays a crucial role.
The film is produced by Rana Daggubati and Dulquer himself, along with Prashanth Potluri and Jom Verghese. Set in 1950s Madras, Kantha is a complete period drama that focuses on the relationship between versatile actor Chandra (played by Dulquer) and veteran director-writer Ayya.

Though once close friends, a rift develops between them during the making of a film titled Santha, a female-centric movie in which Chandra was cast in a small role. Eventually, Chandra takes over the project, renames it Shantha and assumes a major role, leading to a deep fallout.
The teaser recreates the sets and atmosphere of 1950s Madras in striking detail. Observant viewers might notice that the story seems inspired by a real person. The makers have announced plans to release the film on September 12.
