With the minority students, especially BCs facing issues of clearing hostel mess bills, R Krishnaiah, the president of National BC Welfare Association, demanded that the State government release the budget by this month. In response to the demands made by the association, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka promised to release the budget to the hostels immediately and clear the arrears of fees in three months.
Krishnaiah said, “With the financial year ended on March 31, the allocated budget will lapse. Hostel mess bills of the last 10 months and three years of fees dues have not been released. As a result, the students are facing hardships.”
For the past 10 months, the BC students have not paid their mess bills. So, traders are stopping the supply of essential items, vegetables, oils, pulses, chicken, eggs and other food items to the hostels.
This resulted in the closure of the hostels. But the mess charges bills of 700 BC and 1500 SC/ST hostels in the State have been pending for 10 months and have not been passed.
Due to this, students are facing serious difficulties. They asked the government to intervene and pay the dues of the hostels.
BC leaders urged the Deputy Chief Minister to release the budget immediately. State presidents of Telangana BC Youth Association Neelam Venkatesh, Rajender, Raj Kumar, Ram, Bikshapati and others participated in these discussions.
Following the discussions, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka ordered the officials of the Finance Department to immediately release the budget. He promised to clear the arrears of fees in three months.
