Director Eashvar Karthic is set to release his upcoming film Zebra, which explores the concept of black and white, leading to the choice of the title. Satya Dev and Daali Dhanunjay play the lead roles in the film. Eashvar explains that bank scams don’t come out into the open as easily as other scams, primarily due to the potential harm to a bank’s reputation. When asked about his previous film, Lucky Baskhar, which also depicted the banking and stock market system, he said, “That was a family drama and a period film and at that time, the system was mostly on ledger books. But my current story is contemporary, mostly computerized. It’s much harder to commit a crime now, with CCTV cameras and increased monitoring.”
Eashvar, an engineering graduate who began his career at Infosys, worked in several corporate companies before transitioning into the film industry. “My last job was in a bank and I know how the banking system works. There was a scam that happened when I worked there and I’ve put all my experiences and the characters I encountered into this film,” he shared.
With numerous web series and English films focusing on banking, finance, and white-collar crimes, Eashvar’s film stands out. “The story begins from the perspective of a common man. If you deposit just 500 rupees in a bank, you’ll wonder how safe it really is. My story deals with banking, money laundering, and gangsters and after watching the film, audiences will be curious to learn that such crimes exist,” he explained.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Satyaraj, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Daali Dhanunjay, Satya Raj and Sunil. “I cast actors who suit the roles and also serve the marketability of the film. To expand its reach into other languages, we roped in actors from Tamil as well,” said the director.
Ravi Basrur, known for his work in KGF, is the music director for Zebra. “It’s a musical crime story and there are seven songs in the film. Music and background score are crucial to the story and Ravi has done a fantastic job with both,” said Eashvar.
