The Election commission of India (ECI) on Saturday said that since the election notification was released on March 16 till April 6, the election officials seized Rs 31.12 crore of cash, 3.21 crore worth of liquor, Rs 5.41 crore worth of Narcotic drugs, Rs 7.66 crore worth of precious metals, Rs 1.62 crores of freebies. On Saturday the ECI released a press statement stating that a total of Rs 49.04 crore was seized by the various enforcement departments.
As per the guidelines of the ECI, police formed 466 flying squads Teams(FST), 85 state internal border check posts besides mobile parties of local police to curb illegal transportation of money, precious metals, liquor, freebies and other enticements. A total of 6,647 licensed arms were deposited in the police stations.
A total of 1,718 kg of marijuana, 77 grams of MDMA, 6.5 kg of Alphazolam, 1.8 litre of Hash oil, 10 grams of Ecstasy pills, 12 Ganja Plants, 5 grams of Heroin, 120 grams OPM Paste, 0.428 kgs of Ganja Chocolate, 05 LSD Blots and other items have been seized by the ECI.
In the 2019 House of People elections, the ECI has seized Rs 46.40 crore of cash, material items in the MCC. But, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections the number has crossed within 22 days with more than Rs 49 crores.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad District Election Officer (DEO) Ronald Rose said that Rs 6.53 crore was seized in the last 24 hours as part of the implementation of the MCC.
Ronald Rose said that from the election notification till April 6, a total of Rs 12.49 crore cash along with other material items worth of Rs 1.73 crore and 19,358.43 liters of illegal liquor have been seized in the two parliament constituencies.
He said that cases have been registered against 139 people and 134 people have been arrested.
