Elections to WUAs rescheduled

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a revised schedule for elections to the Water Users’ Associations (WUAs). The Water Resources Department (WRD) will issue the election notification across the 13 erstwhile districts on December 5.
According to the new schedule, elections for the members of the Territorial Constituencies (TCs) and for the positions of President and Vice President of WUAs will be held on December 8. Elections for Distributary Committees (DCs) will follow on December 11, while elections for the Project Committees (PCs) are scheduled for December 14.
As per WRD officials, the elections will cover 6,149 WUAs, 245 Distributary Committees, and 53 Project Committees across the state. Of these, 1,755 WUAs fall under Major Irrigation, comprising 21,060 TCs. Additionally, 266 WUAs under Medium Irrigation account for 3,192 TCs, while Minor Irrigation includes 4,128 WUAs with 24,768 TCs. The state has an Ayacut area of 71.11 lakh acres, under which the WRD has formed a total of 49,020 Territorial Constituencies.
Officials also confirmed that 18 Project Committees under Major Irrigation and 35 under Medium Irrigation will be covered in the elections, which will be concluded by December 14.
