Telangana records the highest-ever electricity consumption in its history

On Tuesday Telangana recorded the highest-ever electricity consumption in its history. In March, a demand of 15,000 MW was expected. The highest peak demand of 15,254 MW was recorded at 10.03 am on Tuesday which is the highest ever consumption in the state’s history.
“Electricity consumption in the state is increasing by the day due to the increase in cultivated area and industrial needs. The consumption of electricity will increase more. 37 per cent of the electricity consumption is in the agriculture sector,” Transco, Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao said.
He said that Telangana is the state that consumes the most electricity for agriculture in the country.
“Tamil Nadu ranks first in South India in total electricity consumption and is followed by Telangana. A record 15,254 MW was consumed on Tuesday compared to 14,138 MW on Monday,” he added.
Last year in March the highest electricity consumption was 14,160 MW and this time in December it surpassed last year’s record and in March 2023 itself the peak electricity consumption of 14,750 MW was surpassed.
“In this summer there is a possibility of demand touching 16,000 MW and we will supply it,” he said.
“We had already assumed that demand will touch 15,000 MW in March and we have made arrangements to supply that as per KCR’s orders. We will continuously supply electricity to farmers and all kinds of consumers without interruption,” he added.
