The areas around Hasmathpet lake located in Balanagar mandal of Medhchal- Malkajgiri district is under threat with several encroachments. Inspite of being a government land the areas in survey no. 1, 15 and 17 are being sold to innocent people by building small huts. The hyacinth spread on the surface of the lake has been cleaned by spending crores of rupees but it is back as the encroachers pushed the waste drainage into the lake.
The Pioneer correspondent was explained that the surrounding areas population is crying for help as they are in need of a local government clinic.
Social Activist Md Shad said,” The local leaders are sharing the government land as a piece of cake in and around the lake. The Hasmathpet lake known as Bon Cheruvu, with full tank level (FTL) was spread over 68 acres but reduced to 26 acres now. The living shelters being sold in Dream State Venture which is a government land is also encroached. Many petitions were filed but midnight transfers take place if the officials come to demolish the places. There is a pressure from a politican to not answer any enquiries of this lake’s encroachments and all the department officials are silent on this issue.”
Zonal Commissioner Mamatha, whose tenure is over, is still in office and responds that police and revenue officials must take action because officials need protection for the work.
When The Pioneer contacted the revenue officer concerned, he said that he is on long leave and landline will guide the officer number to talk but calls to the number are never answered.
Another activist also explained that Survey No 57, a government land where a temple is situated is encroached further with extension for more temple works and the concerned MLA had visited to do bhumi puja.
The notices from one office to another get passed but land is not being protected.
The only Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation Model Market is left with no use though fully constructed. The area in front of the buidling has also been encroached. The GHMC official said “The revenue department has taken the responsibility of the works but they need police protection to demolish the constructions.”
