After nearly 28 years, Kamal Haasan is preparing for the release of the highly anticipated sequel to Indian, titled Indian 2. The film is set to hit theaters on July 2. At a press conference for Indian 2 in Kochi, director S. Shankar teased an exciting surprise for fans—those who see the sequel in theaters might get a special preview of Indian 3.
Shankar revealed that there is a possibility the trailer for Indian 3 will be shown during the end credits of Indian 2. He indicated that if the post-production for Indian 3 stays on track, audiences could get a sneak peek of the next installment in cinemas.
The director also shared plans to release Indian 3 within six months of Indian 2’s debut, provided everything proceeds smoothly. Shankar noted, “If the VFX work is completed on schedule, it’s feasible to release within six months. And, as a special treat, you might see the trailer for ‘Indian 3’ at the end of ‘Indian 2’.”
‘Indian 2’ features Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suryah, Bobby Simha, and Priya Bhavani Shankar, and continues the story of Senapathy—a freedom fighter turned vigilante dedicated to combating corruption and societal ills.
Kamal Haasan initially announced ‘Indian 2’ in 2017. The project faced setbacks when Sri Venkateswara Creations withdrew due to escalating production costs, and Lyca Productions subsequently took over. Filming, which began in January 2019, was disrupted by a tragic accident and the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a two-year delay.
Red Giant Movies later joined as co-producers, and filming was completed in March 2024. Directed by Shankar, Indian 2 was produced with a budget of Rs 250 crores.
