The ‘YogAndhra-2025’ campaign, launched by the government to promote yoga practices and raise awareness of its benefits among the public, has received an enthusiastic response in Andhra Pradesh. In conjunction with the International Yoga Day celebrations to be held in Visakhapatnam on June 21, the government has organised various activities under the YogAndhra programme, which will run from May 21 for a month, encouraging public participation Statewide.
As part of this initiative, the Special Chief Secretary to the Medical and Health Department, MT Krishna Babu, compiled the public response and submitted a report to the Cabinet committee. The committee, chaired by Human Resources, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh, includes Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and other ministers as members.
Krishna Babu commented that the enthusiastic response of the public in the first week is very encouraging for the YogAndhra programme. “For the month-long YogAndhra initiative, the target set is to register 20 million participants. In the first week alone, there was a target of 26,66,666 registrations, and by May 27, this target was surpassed, with a total of 28,55,048 individuals registering. This marks a registration rate of over 107 per cent beyond the goal.”
Regarding the registrations for master trainers and trainers, Krishna Babu said that it was also promising as the target for master trainer registrations in the first week was set at 2,600, and as of yesterday, 10,609 master trainers (408 per cent of the target) have registered. He further said additionally, nearly 100 per cent of the target for trainer registrations, totalling 125,000, has also been met. For master trainers within the YogAndhra framework, he mentioned that the target set was 2,600. So far, 5,353 master trainers (206 per cent of the target) have completed their training.
West Godavari, Sri Sathya Sai, and Chittoor districts lead in registrations, Krishna Babu said, and mentioned that Visakhapatnam, Konaseema, and Prakasam districts are lagging behind. In the first week, over the target registrations occurred in 12 districts. West Godavari, Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Annamayya, and Palnadu districts ranked in the top five for registrations. Further efforts are needed to boost registrations in Visakhapatnam, Konaseema, Prakasam, Anantapur, Krishna and Nellore districts.
