Members of the European Commission paid a visit to Andhra University on Monday to assess the ongoing research projects conducted in collaboration with the Marine Living Resources Department. Direct observations were made regarding the progress and scope of these projects at AU.
Following this, Prof. Jose Acuna from Oviedo University in Seine, Prof. Georgios Georgiou from Cyprus University, and Dr. Bitriz Tintorlu from the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation in Greece, met with AU VC Acharya PVGD Prasada Reddy at his office. During the meeting, they expressed their appreciation for the impressive infrastructural facilities developed by the Department of Marine Living Resources, made possible through the European Commission-sponsored research project.
VC Acharya Prasada Reddy extended an invitation to the European Commission members to collaborate on new ideas. The delegation was briefed about AU’s startup ecosystem, Centers of Excellence (COE), and other facilities fostering entrepreneurship. They were also informed about AU’s emphasis on arts and social sciences alongside science and research fields. Unique facilities like Fine Arts, Dance-Music, and the Dolby Studio were highlighted for their contribution to AU’s distinctiveness.
This visit marks a significant step forward in enhancing marine research and conservation efforts. It fosters valuable collaboration between international experts and local institutions, leading to a combined force committed to protecting our precious marine ecosystems. The assessment by the European Commission delegation is expected to provide valuable insights and recommendations for further development of the MML. This collaborative effort paves the way for continued advancements in marine research and conservation, safeguarding the health of our oceans for future generations.
