External debt on Telangana is Rs 6,296 crore

The external debt on Telangana is Rs 6296crore. At 13th position, the Central government took very external debt for TS. As per the Article 293(1) of the Indian Constitution mandates that the State governments in India can borrow only from internal sources. Thus, only Government of India can incur external debt, including that which is meant for the projects and programmes of particular States. Accordingly, the State-wise external debt for Telangana is Rs 6296 crore while that of India is Rs 2,07,445.15 crore.

This is as per the data tabled in Parliament by Minister Of State For Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

Highest External Debt of Tamil Nadu is Rs 32129.25crore, followed by Madhya Pradesh at Rs 28391.66 crore, Rajasthan at Rs 18689.72 crore, West Bengal had Rs14961.73crore, Karnataka at Rs14580.26crore. Maharashtra has external debt of Rs14318.79crore, Bihar of Rs 13590.24 crore, Andhra Pradesh of Rs 11817.17 crore, Uttar Pradesh has Rs 9592.78 crore, Kerala of Rs 8629.83 crore.

Gujarat has external debt of 8307.40 crore, and Orissa at Rs 7081.91 crore followed by Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, these projects are related to ADB: Asian Development Bank; AIIB: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank; NDB: New Development Bank
