Farmers staged a rasta roko on Tuesday in front of the power substation in Mantralayam demanding a supply of three-phase quality power to save their crops.
A large number of farmers squatted on the road raising slogans against the indifference of the electricity officials in supplying quality power.
The farmers said due to scant rainfall their crops are getting withered due to lack of water. If the three-phase power is supplied they could water their crops.
The farmers deplored that due to scant rainfall during the season, their standing crops have started getting withered and they should water the plants immediately to save the crops. But due to irregular power supply and lack of quality, they were unable to switch on their electric pump sets.
Following the rasta roko the traffic on the busy Kurnool-Nandyal came to a halt. A large number of vehicles got stranded on either side of the road due to rasta roko.
The Tahasildar and other officials rushed there and convinced the farmers to call off their agitation, assuring them of taking steps to meet their demand.
