State coordinator for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and a retired DGP, Dr Jujjavarapu Purnachandra Rao, has called upon Bahujan lawyers to actively contribute to the fight for justice and equality. Addressing the Bahujan Lawyers Forum in Vijayawada on Sunday, Dr Rao underlined the BSP’s commitment to addressing key issues affecting Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC), and Minorities at both state and national levels.
Dr Rao criticised the country’s governance, claiming it is prioritising caste-based rule over lawful administration. He emphasised the BSP’s focus on tackling socio-economic challenges faced by marginalised communities and urged lawyers to draw inspiration from Dr B.R. Ambedkar, a lawyer and a steadfast advocate for justice.
Highlighting local issues, he alleged the illegal occupation of Dalit lands in Yadavalli for granite mining during the previous YSR Congress Party government. “The BSP demands that these lands be returned to Dalits and will intensify protests to achieve this,” he declared.
Dr Rao also raised concerns over the privatisation of Vizag Steel Plant and medical colleges, warning that such moves would deprive the poor of access to essential services and medical education. “The BC Coordination Committee will play a crucial role in this movement, and the legal fraternity’s involvement is vital to strengthening our cause,” he added.
Questioning the Chief Minister’s claims of widespread happiness in the state, Dr Rao asked, “How can there be happiness when Dalit lands are encroached upon, public assets are privatised, and the poor are denied medical education?”
The forum, organised by the BSP, witnessed participation from prominent lawyers and party leaders, including BSP State President B. Paramjyoti, who pledged their support for the ongoing struggles.
