After the formation of Telangana state, the fisheries sector developed a lot with the encouragement of Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao, said Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Industries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.
On the occasion of World Fishermen’s Day on Monday, the Telangana Fisheries Department conducted a meeting and Minister Srinivas Yadav was the chief guest.
The Minister spoke about fish in natural water sources (inland). He said that Telangana state stood in the top position in breeding. He said that earlier the fisheries sector was completely neglected. The system should be strengthened.
A programme of free release of fish in all water sources was undertaken. With the construction of new projects, the number of water resources in the state is significant.
Geo-tagging of all water sources is being more helpful. Before 2014, the production of fish was 1.90 lakh tonnes and now it has increased. He said every month a food festival would be organised on 7th, 8th, 9th from next year wherein different varieties of fish curries will be made and presented.
