The police arrested four interstate red sander smugglers and seized 42 red sander logs worth over Rs 41 lakh at Bhakarapet ghat road on Madanapalle-Tirupati NH 71.
Tirupati district Superintendent of Police P Parameshwar Reddy told the media here on Thursday that Circle Inspector Tulasiram, sub-inspectors Prakash Kumar and Venkateswarulu, on the directions of the SP and under the supervision of DSP Yashwant Reddy conducted checking of vehicles on the ghat road. They found 42 red sander logs were being transported in an Itcher transport vehicle.
The police seized the 42 logs, worth Rs 41,53,000 weighing 1051 KGs and the vehicle and arrested four interstate smugglers including J Rajkumar, R Bharat, C Gokul Maran and A Sharavanan, who belonged to Tamil Nadu state. Rajkumar was involved in four red sander smuggling cases and Bharat was involved in two cases.
The smugglers were transporting the red sander logs from Koduru to Chennai through the NH 71. Two more smugglers Sekhar and Ramesh were absconding. The SP appreciated the CI, Sis and the constables for arresting the interstate red sander smugglers.
